HALO TANGO (2021)
This work forms a loosely woven fictional narrative around a female protagonist that is depicted in a small hand-drawn portrait.
‘Mrs Eyles’, a woman drawn in charcoal by another woman Betty Steer in 1962. The charity-shop portrait bookends this story.
The work started a few years ago against the backdrop of the 'Me Too' stories circulating across the media and between friends. This portrait began to intrigue me. I imagined the life of this woman, a kind of 'everywoman' in and around 1962, through the feminist movement and now.
I wanted to acknowledge the quiet acts of ordinary women. That every day move all of us towards a better more equal society.
I am in the process of editing and sequencing this work into a portfolio format. I have been writing to accompany the images.
